On September 15-17, 2014, the first China Germany International Forum on smart cities, namely "Cooperation between Chinese and German to create smart cities together", was held in Ruessesheim, Germany.
At present, cities that occupy less than 2% of the earth's area gather 50% of the world's population and create 70% of the world's GDP. It is estimated that nearly 70% of the global population will live in cities by 2050.
With the increase of population, only execution of smart city idea can improve city management efficiency and energy using so as to effectively solve all the problems each city has to face, such as energy, traffic, environment, safety and etc.
One kind of definition of smart city idea is: Urban sustainable development ecology, which is characterized by supporting from new generation of information technology (mobile Internet, big data, the Internet of things, cloud computing …) and by knowledge society next generation innovation (user innovation, public innovation, open innovation, collaborative innovation…).
Example 1 of exploring smart city construction:Mannheim in Germany has successfully connected all families in the city to the smart power energy network. This smart net connects advanced equipments of sensing, measurement and communication to the existing power grid, and has developed a series of system management and application software. The "energy housekeeper" enables each family to query energy prices, energy consumption and energy use expenses at any time. It can be set to use low-cost renewable energy for saving energy expenditure, etc., so as to promote urban energy conservation and emission reduction as well as improve energy supply efficiency.
Example 2 of exploring smart city construction:Huawei is currently undertaking the construction of a wireless network system for the Dortmund stadium, so that spectators can book food and drinks, queue up for toilets remotely ..., through the service procedures of the system, so as to average the service rhythm, save public time, reduce congestion and looting, and effectively improve social order.
Three examples of exploring smart city construction:In Zhangcha, Foshan, Guangdong, China it has established an urban intelligent cleaning system. The inspectors of the system are on duty regularly in the jurisdiction by battery car; If a cleaning black spot is found, transmit the video image and sound to the command center; The command center uses GPS to locate and dispatch cleaners to clean; The cleaner shall report the results remotely after completing the work. This system improves the efficiency and quality of public services and improves the environment of urban streets.
