BIM is a data tool applied in engineering and construction management, which can integrate related information of various projects through parametric model, sharing and transferring during entire life-cycle of project plan, operation and maintenance, so that the engineering and technical person can correctly understand and effectively response to various building information, as well as providing work cooperation basis for design team and all the main parties such as construction operating units. BIM plays an important role in productivity improving, cost saving and schedule shortening.
BIM has already used in many project, such like Shanghai Tower, Shanghai Disneyland, SOHO and etc.
Shanghai Government General Office forwarded the guidance of promoting the building information modeling technology from Shanghai Construction Management Committee on October 29, 2014. Shanghai construction industry associations carried out in the last time a promotion and implementation meeting of the guidance about BIM technology application. Interpretation focused on the guidance is as follows:
Phased and step by step from pilot of BIM technology to BIM application popularization. By the end of 2016, it is to meet basically the BIM technology application related policies, standards and market environment. The companies of main design, construction, consulting services and property management in Shanghai should be generally with application capacities of BIM technology. By 2017, the city-scale government investment projects should apply the BIM technology completely and Social investment projects above a certain scale should apply the BIM technology in general. The implementation and management of projects in Shanghai construction industry should be in the leading position in China
- In 2017, important projects about 100 million Yuan or 20,000 square meter area must apply BIM technology.
- Declaration of green building, application for awards of excellent quality of survey, design or construction must be related to the use of BIM technology.
